چکیده

The aim of the present research is to evaluate the degree of deterioration by means of stress waves. In this study, the stress waves generated by the impact of a steel ball on concrete surface are recorded by a displacement receiver 200 mm away. The received signal is analyzed in the frequency domain. The frequencies of the dominant response in the spectrum are used to evaluate the depth of deterioration for concrete specimens experienced various high temperatures. Two types of specimens were used for investigation. One is small specimen with dimensions 40*40*15 cm. These specimens were heated with the temperatures 300 to 800°C. The other is a large concrete plate with the size 240*130*15 cm. The specimen is heated by fire with the highest temperature 600°C. The principal frequencies obtained from the small specimens were compared to the depth of deterioration evaluated by drilled core. The cores were sliced into thin disks and the depth of the deterioration was evaluated by the dynamic elastic modulus of the disks. The test procedures were also applied to the big plate specimen to obtain the depth of deterioration. The test results show the depth of deterioration can not be evaluated when it is less than 2 cm. A linear relationship can be found between the lowest peak frequency and the depth of deterioration.

The study of effective stress and pore water pressures in the foundation of a concrete gravity platform affected by loads due to waves, currents and wind in the Persian Gulf

It is proposed to use a single base platform in the Persian Gulf considering its low depth and more appropriate environmental conditions in comparison to North Sea and Mexico Gulf where this kind of platform is very popular. The pile of platform is responsible for transmission of environmental loads resulted from waves, currents, wind and dead loads to foundation of platform. Using SACS 5.3 sof...

Crack Depth Measurement in Concrete Using Surface Wave Transmission

A technique to estimate the depth of surface-breaking cracks in concrete is presented. The surface wave transmission coefficient across the crack plane is determined and used to estimate the depth. A self-compensating testing scheme is applied to eliminate experimental difficulties. Here the self-compensating testing scheme is introduced, and the approach used to estimate crack depth from the m...

Equilibrium condition nonlinear modeling of a cracked concrete beam using a 2D Galerkin finite volume solver

A constitutive model based on two–dimensional unstructured Galerkin finite volume method (GFVM) is introduced and applied for analyzing nonlinear behavior of cracked concrete structures in equilibrium condition. The developed iterative solver treats concrete as an orthotropic nonlinear material and considers the softening and hardening behavior of concrete under compression and tension by using...

Seismic Behavior Evaluation of Concrete Elevated Water Tanks

Elevated tanks are important structures in storing vital products, such as petroleum products for cities and industrial facilities, as well as water storage. These structures have various types and are constructed in a way that a greater portion of their weight is concentrated at an elevation much about the base. Damage to these structures during strong ground motions may lead to fire or other ...
